MY 2021-22 HOLIDAY WISH

For many years I have termed myself a congenital optimist – but one who is a realist too and doesn’t like to be disappointed. Right now in this holiday season, I am thinking of the song “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” which made me cry each time I watched the movie on TV (or saw the Broadway musical) “Meet Me in St. Louis,” where the song originated.

With the fierce new wave of Covid-19, in these days of uncertainty, I have to hope that “Someday soon we all will be together, if the fates allow, until then we’ll have to muddle through somehow.”

Be sensible to stay safe and healthy. Be empathetic to everyone you interact with in-person or virtually. As a self-proclaimed “uniter” of all differences, I point out that you don’t have to be, or do it alone, unless you choose that path. End ugly divisiveness. Make the choice for kindness, community, compassion and grace. We WILL get through all together!

And “Have yourself a merry little (what holiday you celebrate) now.”

Thank you songwriters Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane for putting these words in my head.
